Mary, the brave mother.
Picture this: a teenage girl, arranged to be married to a man she does not know, and
suddenly an angel shows up and says you’re going to have a baby. Oh ya, and he’s gonna grow up and save the world. No pressure. Talk about overwhelming! While we may not experience exactly what Mary felt, we do have moments of fear, doubt and overwhelming situations. But God sees all and knows each and every one of us. He always has a plan in place. And while the angel dropped this truth bomb on Mary, that she would become mother to the Son of God, he also said these words:
The angel came to her and said, “You are honoured very much. You are a favoured woman. The Lord is with you. You are chosen from among many women.”
Luke 1:28 (NLV)
You are Blessed
It’s an honour to be a mother. This is why God asks all children to honour both father and mother. It’s a role in life that has a high calling. We are responsible for many things from carrying a precious life in our womb, to birthing, to raising young men and women to be disciples of the King. You have a part in training the royal priesthood that God has called to Himself. That’s a pretty big deal. And so are you! So if you’ve ever doubted that if what you do as a mom is not important, think again! God has blessed you especially to be a mother.
You are Favoured
The definition of favoured means to be approved. This goes hand in hand with being blessed. Just in case you needed another reminder that you can do this thing called #momlife, God has approved you. You’ve been approved by God Almighty to do this!
The Lord is With You
I can’t tell you how many times things have been difficult and through the tough times, the tough lessons and character building (for both me and my kids) I have sometimes felt that I can’t do this alone. I was right though, I can’t do this alone. But I am always reassured by this:
“...for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” - Deuteronomy 31:6
God is always with you, walking with you and talking with you through it all...even through the tantrums and dirty diapers. He’s got your back!
You are Chosen
Did you know that God has specifically chosen you to be mom to (insert your children’s names here)? No one else can be the best mom for them. Sure there may be those out there who can give nurture and love to your kids, but it won’t be the same for the one who has been specifically chosen for them by God. God has ordained it. When you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing, it’s okay. We never get the instruction manual, but it doesn’t mean we can’t get through it. They are your precious gifts and you have been chosen to mold and shape them with the help of God’s direction.
If Mary can do it with the Son of God, we can be brave too!

Did you know you are blessed, favoured, chosen and that God is with you, every step of the way? I hope you do now!
Here’s a little prayer from Psalm 90:14-17 that blessed me as I researched this week:
Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,
that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,
and for as many years as we have seen evil.
Let your work be shown to your servants,
and your glorious power to their children.
Let the favour of the Lord our God be upon us,
and establish the work of our hands upon us;
yes, establish the work of our hands!
May the favour of God be upon us, so we can do the work of motherhood well and for His glory.
